Thanks for sticking with me during the major delays between updates. I've been seeing the comments that people have left and it's really nice to know that people are actually reading this thing!
SO--Avalon Expo happened, and there were a lot of issues with it from an organization standpoint. I'm not going to say much more about it, except for a large part in my delay between updates stems from me really needing some time to decompress. Anyway--life goes on, and that's that! The St. John's Short Play festival is CURRENTLY taking place at the LSPU Hall in Downtown St. John's. I mentioned before that I'm acting in one of the plays, The Last of the Second Chances. We had our openirca.nf.ca/ng performance on Sunday and it seemed to go pretty well. The audience members with whom I spoke after the show indicated that they enjoyed all the performances and that the script was incredible--Daryl is a great playwright, I must say! I'm going to admit that I was extremely nervous just before the show began. That was an odd sensation--I've been performing for most of my life, stage-fright is not something that I've ever really dealt with before. But, again, this is my first time doing "real" theatre, because I've typically performed only in musicals. Anyway--before and after the show, I just could not stop shaking. During the show, I was magically fine--and now that we've got one performance down, I think I'm going to be fine. I know that I can do this in front of an audience and not screw the pooch, so there's nothing left to be nervous about. If you're around and want to check out the show, or any of the other awesome shows happening during the festival, check out https://rca.nf.ca/ for tickets and schedule information. NOW--onto the purpose for the title of this post: The Return of Justin Foley Entertainment! After a four-and-a-half year absence from doing birthday parties in character, I'm actively bringing back Justin Foley Entertainment, which provides both entertainment and/or event planning services for events of various types. I've got characters designed for kid's birthdays, grown-up birthdays, bachelor and bachelorette parties...and if there's something specific you're looking for that I don't offer, I can make it--seriously, that's how most of my shows are created. So, if you're looking for entertainment for, like, literally anything, check out my other site and touch base! If I can't help you myself, I can definitely point you in the right direction. Okay--that's enough of me tooting my own horn. Back to life! Enjoy, folks!

So, evidently I'm -still- garbage at updating my blog, despite my repeated resolutions to be better at it. What can I say? I suck! That said: I can dump a huge load of updates on you all now--bwa-ha-ha!!
First: I've just finished working on two projects back-to-back: a new television series for the CBC called Caught, which is based on the novel of the same name, and a feature film called An Audience of Chairs, also based off a novel of the same name. On both of these projects, I served as the Assistant Locations Manager--which is a definite step-up from the work I'd been doing before. Not that I didn't enjoy it, but it definitely qualifies as a promotion so that's pretty exciting. Here's hoping for some more work along those lines in the future, and that this wasn't just a fluke. Next: I've actually been getting to do some acting lately...which is amazing! For anyone who doesn't know, I started in this industry with acting as my main focus, and then I diverted into different directions in hopes that I'd succeed at just one of any of them, and acting fell by the wayside. But this year, I've been in two short 10-minute plays (I was Sal in The Canadian Tuxedo and Steve in Mediocrity), and I also have just been cast as Michael in a new play called The Last of the Second Chances which will debut (!!!) at the St. John's Short Play Festival in September this year. To say that I'm excited would be an understatement, because this is a 45 minute play, and it will represent the first piece of long-form "real" theatre I will have ever done. The play was written by Darryl Davis, and will be directed by Sandra Mills. Finally: August 25-27 will be Avalon Expo 3. I'm ecstatic to report that I will, once again, be the official Master of Ceremonies. The guests this year include Linda Ballantyne (voice of Sailor Moon), Katie Griffiths (voice of Sailor Mars), Rene Auberjonois (Odo from DS9), Colin Baker (6th Doctor) and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls, Guardians of the Galaxy 2). The event is happening at Mile One Centre, and I'm stoked to be one of the familiar faces and voice you'll be able to find there, especially next to such an incredible line-up such as this. OK, so those are my updates. You can see why I don't always have time to update this thing on the regular now, I guess--but I'm still going to try. We've all seen how well that works, but dagnabbit I'm going to try anyway! Thanks all! Hey there, folks! It's me, catching up on this thing that I'm really bad at sticking to. I don't know--most of the time, I don't have the time to sit down and write about myself...and when I -do- have the time, I don't really have the inclination. I mean, I've got friends that I want to try and see, a loving girlfriend I try to pay oodles of attention to, and an apartment to maintain...plus there are a few shows I love to watch. You know, plus the fact that I highly doubt that my life is such an interesting thing to read about anyway! But I should really keep up on this anyway--it's a good idea to be regularly updating my site for work purposes, and who knows? This might actually be useful somehow. So, here's my overdue update.
First, I've been approached to perform in a new band called Heartless, which is a Heart cover band based here in St. John's. We haven't jammed yet but we've met and I've got a good feeling about group, and we're going to start learning songs soon. I'm super pumped about this, because it's been too long since I've been in a band...I miss jamming with The Dukes of Doyle and Hammingwell, so this is going to fill a void, I think. Furthermore, it's going to be amazing getting to finally be in a band with my good friend Amanda, who is the lead vocalist for St. John's-based metal band Category VI...which is one of my favourite local (and metal in general) bands. I'll (try to) keep you posted on what comes up. We're shooting for a gig in February 2017 though--more on that as it comes!! Secondly, I have a new gig/accolade that I'm honoured by: TedXYouth St. John's, an organization that I have been involved with as a volunteer for the last few years, has asked me to come aboard as part of their Leadership Team, undertaking the role of Production Lead. This thrills me because, while I have a fair amount of experience with this sort of thing from my volunteer experience with Rogers TV (seriously...it's not much different than directing Live-To-Tape television productions), I'm very self-critical. I don't know why...self-sabotage I guess. I spend my whole life working towards and hoping to succeed in a dream job field, and when it actually starts to happen, I can't really believe it. I don't get the satisfaction of "I worked for this, I've earned this, I deserve this"...I KNOW it, I just don't FEEL it--I just feel like "What, really? You're letting me do this thing? You sure??" I'm starting to get used to it because it's happening more and more often so it's less weird...but it's still a work in progress. So, for now, Go Me! :D Thanks for reading. More updates soon, I hope. I went to a seminar today on Boosting Your Business through Facebook. Since I'm involved heavily with Sci-Fi on the Rock and Avalon Expo, as well as trying to help get Pitcher Plant Productions AND Justin Foley Entertainment off the ground with basically NADA in the way of personal financial resources, I'd give this thing a shot (especially since the seminar was free--thanks, Facebook!)
Many of the things talked about today, I already knew...I'm already familiar with Facebook's Page tools and insights and so forth, however they did go into some more detail about the finer aspects of targeting the audience who is advertised to, which was actually quite helpful. Additionally, just through peoples' talking, I got a lot of ideas that I can add to JFE, Sci-Fi and Pitcher Plant...and to my own personal self...as you can see, I've adopted the title "Entertainment and Event Consultant", which actually describes me quite well. And they said you can't teach an old dog new tricks! HA! Website redesign--again8/13/2016 Welcome to the redesigned Justin Foley website--or, as I like to call it now, my Port-Foley-O!
I know, cheesy...but that's me, isn't it? King of the dad joke, the man who moshes in a suit, the guy with the best last name for puns (every time I get broken up with, I say my ex wanted to start ex-Foley-ating!) Anyway--this new design is much easier to maintain and update, as opposed to my older, horrendously out-of-date site. So hopefully I can be way more diligent with my updates. Come across as being somewhat professional...right... That's it for now folks. I'll try to blog at least once a week...hopefully more. AuthorJ-Fo is: Archives
